Ready to level up your sewing skills and tackle knits with confidence? Join us for the Jackson Tee Workshop and sew your own perfectly wearable, everyday t-shirt!
The Jackson Tee by Helen’s Closet is a modern wardrobe staple with a relaxed, unisex fit, featuring a classic crew neckline and slightly dropped shoulders for an easy, comfortable silhouette. With multiple length options and endless fabric possibilities, this is a pattern you’ll come back to again and again.
In this two-session workshop, you’ll learn the essential techniques for sewing with knit fabrics - no serger required! We’ll guide you through working with stretch fabrics like cotton jersey or bamboo knits, choosing the right needle and stitches, and constructing a clean, professional-looking garment from start to finish.
This class is perfect for confident beginners and intermediate sewists who are comfortable using a sewing machine and want to expand into garment sewing with knits.
Recommended Fabrics:
Light to midweight knit fabrics with stretch (e.g., cotton jersey, cotton spandex, bamboo jersey, or modal knits).
Materials & Supplies
Students must bring: 1.5–2.5 metres of knit fabric (see fabric guidelines below) and matching thread.
Provided: A printed A0 size Jackson Tee pattern and instructions. Shared studio tools are available to use, including fabric scissors, pins/clips, irons, chalk/fabric markers, etc.
Machines:
Sewing machines are available in-studio (email katherine@tinycheerhandmade.com to reserve), or you’re welcome to bring your own.
Fabric Guidelines:
Choose a light to midweight knit fabric with stretch, such as:
- Cotton jersey
- Cotton spandex
- Bamboo jersey
- Modal knits
Look for fabrics with at least 20–30% stretch for best results, and avoid very slippery, ribbed, or heavy knits for your first project.
Confident Beginner / Intermediate
You should be comfortable:
- Threading your sewing machine
- Sewing straight seams with a consistent seam allowance
No prior experience with knits is required!
