What we’ll do: This 3-week kids soft circuit sewing class in Guelph introduces young makers to the magical intersection of hand sewing, art, and beginner electronics. Using conductive thread, sewable LEDs, and Lilypad battery packs, participants will learn how to stitch real, working electrical circuits directly into felt designs.
Over three weeks, students will make a personalized needle holder and two soft circuit projects: a backpack badge and a bracelet band. Along the way they'll explore:
- Basic hand-sewing techniques
- Parallel circuits and simple electrical engineering concepts
- Creative design choices and colour layering
- Problem solving and spatial reasoning
- Confidence-building making in a supportive studio environment
This beginner-friendly sewing class is designed for curious kids who love to make, tinker, and experiment. No prior sewing or electronics experience is required.
